Satellite2 Memberships.

Spirograph
We are now taking memberships for [info]satellite_2 and the website will, from Monday evening, have membership forms on it.

Just a note about prices. Until after Orbital ie 24th March, the price of an adult membership will be just £30. After the 24th it will rise to £40. Kids' prices are £10, because we are doing things that kids will (hopefully)like, but we're not specifically having kids' program items. Cheques can be made payable to "Satellite2". If anyone would like to set up electronic payments then please contact me at dyllanne@yahoo.com and I'll send the account details.

Not tickets. Memberships. I'll correct that.

Grin, yay! And thank you for taking that well ... I'm waiting to see how many people explode because we're using "sci-fi" in the publications for Orbital :-)

What's so offensive about "sci-fi"? Does it have to be "science fiction" all the time always, no matter what? Or do we get bent out of shape if it's not "speculative fiction" or "futuristic" or "alternate reality" or something else? What's the current euphemism?

SF

For years "sci-fi" is what The Sun called it, and was the preserve of 50s B movies and the worst excesses of "trekkie", while the rest of us were very aloof and rejected "sci-fi" as derogatory and condescending, and wanted to stick with SF or Speculative Fiction. SF&F was ok, and more recently SF/F/H (Horror) has become more acceptable.

The cable TV network SciFi was looked down on when it first opened because of the name it chose ... but I think the term has become more acceptable and this may well be the year when only the old fogeys and those that are looking for a fight will still defend the ridicule of the term "sci-fi".

Me and S and R. How do I register? Can I pay online?

We don't have on-line payment facilities. It's far too expensive. Maybe if we had a bigger budget we could look into it, but the bank changes a fortune if you've not got a massive turnover. Even then they charge 2.5%, so we'd have to be adding a pound onto every membership cost just to cover the bank charges. It's ridiculous really. There's a chance I could borrow my father in law's "customer not present" facility, but I haven't cleared it with him and I wouldn't like to presume.

On Monday evening we're putting the membership forms on the website. Print them off, fill them in, pop a cheque in the post before the 24th and the whole cost for the three of you will be £70. I'd put the forms in the post for you, but it won't be any quicker than printing them off yourself. Pog is going and Danae (Mad Elf's daughter). There may be X-Babies too, so R should have some pals to hang about with.
